Can You Still Make Money at eBay?

by Julie Anna

There seems to be a level of doubt over eBay being an online venue where you can actually make money. I am totally convinced that eBay can make you any amount of cash you set your mind to making. Yes, like any home business to make it successful it takes work. This is where I think the naysayers get their fodder. Indeed, we aren’t living in 2002 and 2003 when it was easy, scratch that, very easy to make money on eBay. You could sell almost anything for insane prices. Folks were enamored with eBay and it was frankly the only show in town. Fast forward to nearly a decade later. Is it worth your time to set up shop at eBay? Well, here are some current stats for you:

  1. A third of all internet users in the world go to eBay at least once a month
  2. 70,000 people register an eBay account every day
  3. eBay has over $100,000 worth of transactions done every minute
  4. It’s the 23rd most visited site on the internet ranking above both Craigslist and Amazon

So if one third of every internet user worldwide visits eBay, do you think it is a great source for traffic? Absolutely! There are so many folks on eBay looking for items to buy and you can take advantage of this opportunity for almost zero start up costs. eBay has also changed its help files most importantly the availability of tips and resources for store owners. I say that a store is the best thing any online seller can have on eBay. If your item doesn’t sell on auction just place the item in your store for more, yes, I said more, money and it will normally sell in two weeks or less. There are ways to drive traffic to your store and Google ranks your items in searches. There are many website owners who pay alot of money for this to happen in ecommerce. So what are you waiting for?

If you are new to selling on eBay I’d like to invite you to a very helpful discussion group where many members are Powersellers on eBay. It’s called eBay_establishings and is a place where you can freely ask even the most basic questions without feeling embarassed. We all had to start somewhere.

If you have already began your eBay selling career, and need a little help I wrote an eBook which is very helpful for the seller who needs to do a bit more with their listings, and may have sourcing questions. You can read more about it here.
