An
Open Letter
to Fathers
How
I went from
corporate America to home running several
successful businesses with eleven children
We
were
looking for a way for me, the father, to come home fulltime. We have
always
wanted a home business but the thoughts were overwhelming when we
considered
the start up TIME and costs involved. We definitely didn’t
want me to
leave my
corporate job to eventually work more hours and have less money in the
end.
Then
the
internet came along. People were finding selling niches on eBay and
making good
money. My wife approached me about a part time mad money opportunity .
I
thought, "Why not?" Well, when she made her first sell of $37 on a
single
children’s book we bought for less than a $1, I was hooked. I
saw a
window of
opportunity. I
began helping her and the
children seek books for resell online through eBay. We found the
children could
be easily involved not left at home while we ran off to power selling
meetings,
and had to meet sales quotas.
I
left my high
paying corporate job since I saw potential to control my own hours and
future
in an online business. I did it backwards from where most people are
coming
from. I was crazy enough to just do it. Then my wife talked me into
going to
Rhea’s Entrepreneur’s Days. She explained the folks
there are like me…
they
think a little differently. I could not believe how inspired I became.
To rub
elbows with folks who think like me and have the same family vision was
amazing.
I have attended nearly all of Rhea’s conferences. I think I
am a Rhea’s
Days
conference attendee junkie! I just can’t get enough from the
ideas and
energy
that freely flows at her events. That’s the amazing part, the ideas and networking
which have in the
long run been the most helpful for my confidence level have been
absolutely
free at the conference.
Yes,
to
prepare for this leap of faith with (at that time) 9 children we had to
make a
few sacrifices. One was to set a goal to become debt free. We were
focused and
knew God would have us do this for our family’s sake.
Today, I ‘m home
fulltime with my family. We currently operate three
businesses out
of our
home. The children have a few enterprising endeavors of their own. Now
we see
the fruits of this calling. It is not in financial freedom or even in
owning
our own lives. It is in watching the children develop a mindset that
GOD is
their sustenance and their dependence. They have learned skills that
we, their
parents, never dreamed of possessing out of high school let alone
didn’t learn
in college. The reward of watching the kids grow has been worth it all!
Presently,
I teach
others how to do what I have done. I consult other men who
are willing to take that leap. I have been there. I have learned
through my
mistakes what will and won’t work for you. We have found that
helping
others
become financially independent is rewarding. Too many people have sold
their
whole lives to their careers. In the end they lament the time loss of
important
relationship building. I believe God has not only called us men to step
out
from something (institutional education) but to something. He wants us
to be
empowered to further His kingdom. We can only do that with unified and
non-stressed families. A home business where the children are learning
and
growing with their parents allows the freedom to do so. We can impact
our world
for the Lord if we shake the bonds of worldly philosophies. They rob us
men of
our God ordained roles as leaders, teachers and mentors to our families
first,
the church, and our world.
Go
for it!
Let God lead you
& see what great things He has for you.
